Medical research project to capture 3D images during surgery Aug. 2, 2011 - Associate Professor Ghassan Hamarneh from SFU Computing Science is leading a research project to benefit surgeons and their patients. His research team aims to bring the rich details of pre-operative medical images to surgeons who perform robotic surgeries. His project received $1 million US in funding from the Qatar National Research Foundation. |

SFU partners with industry for data mining research July 21, 2011 - SFU is collaborating with Trusterra Technologies, a company that develops web-based and mobile platform products, through an NSERC Engage grant. Mark Drew and Greg Mori from Computing Science are leading a research team in developing a data mining search engine based on speech and image processing that will help professionals share work information more easily. |

Engineering student wins first place in the BCNET Digital Media Challenge May 16, 2011 - Graduate student Andrew Au recently won First Place (and $1000) in the 2011 BCNET Digital Media Challenge competition. His project, Veaver, merges together different videos in 3D to give users a better viewing experience because they see multiple videos and can switch from one view to another. |

People commanding robots not far-fetched April 6, 2011 - SFU researchers are paving the way for humans to direct robots without pushing or prodding them. SFU computing science student Brian Milligan won an award recently for his video demonstrating an uninstrumented person commanding a group of robots by looking at them and using hand gestures. |

Canada's first graduate-level dual degree in Computing Science
Sept. 1, 2010 - The Faculty of Applied Sciences launched the dual degree Computing Science graduate program, the first of its kind in Canada, with Zhejiang University (ZU) in Hangzhou, China.
